An aging population means that it is more important than ever for employers to consider how they can best support their older workers. The Age-friendly Employer Pledge—an initiative launched by the Centre for Ageing Better—encourages employers to take action to create age-friendly workplaces in the UK.
Ageism in the workplace is still a huge issue. Many older workers report feeling undervalued or excluded due to their age and they struggle to access the same opportunities for training and development as their younger counterparts.
The Age-friendly Employer Pledge is a commitment made by employers to create more age-friendly workplaces. The goal is to ensure that older workers are valued, supported and encouraged to continue working for as long as they choose. By signing the pledge, employers agree to take specific actions to make their workplaces more age-friendly, like offering flexible working arrangements, providing training and development opportunities for all workers regardless of age, and promoting an age-positive culture throughout the organization.
This is exactly what I’ve been pushing toward in my work! Older workers bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to their roles and they also play a vital role in driving innovation and growth within their organizations.
The UK’s Age-friendly Employer Pledge is a positive step towards creating more inclusive and age-friendly workplaces. Hopefully this encourages more progress in the positive aging shere! And more companies will understand the benefits of a more diverse and skilled workforce.
How can your company, or enterprise, demonstrate your commitment to tackling ageism and creating a more inclusive workplace for all?
