Most of us want to make a difference in the world, to follow our passion and live lives of significance and purpose. But many feel like they can’t do this and still make the money they need to make, especially after the recession. Either we do what we love or we meet our financial needs. […]
Have you DESIGNED your BOOMER Future?
In 2017 surveys showed a large majority of Boomers planning to continue working past retirement age, some by necessity and some by design. But now we can see signs of economic recovery with over 50 percent of Boomers born in 1946 saying they are now fully retired. Does this mean that Boomers are headed for […]
Different Kinds of Coaches
In Monday’s post, I answered one of the most common questions people ask of me: What is a futurist? I also touched on what the phrase Everyday Futurist means. I mentioned that I combine futuring and coaching in all my work, one-on-one, with groups, and in my writing. Which brings me to the second most common question I (and most coaches) get asked: What kind of coach?
What Is a Futurist?
One of the most common questions I get asked is, what is a futurist? (And the corollary, of course—what is an Everyday Futurist specifically?) Some people hear the word and think of psychics and crystal balls, but a professional futurist is not a psychic. Futuring involves a set of strategic, scientific, and intuitive skills that anyone can learn to forecast the future, spotting trends and critical shifts in your own life as well as in the world.
What’s Your Success Look Like
In Seth Godin’s blog post, he makes an excellent point about why we sometimes don’t get very far in our endeavors, even when we are taking action every day. Often out of fear, our actions are either too small, too easy, to get us anywhere, or, out of our impatience, they are too big and […]
Your Place at the Table
Soon,, many of us will reconnect with loved ones, allowing time to stop for a day while we enjoy each other’s company (and cooking!) and reflect on what really matters to us. As I have discussed in the past many women have applied the spirit of this day, both the gratitude and the giving, to […]
ThanksGIVING
Around Thanksgiving, many people focus on gratitude. On the holiday itself, as we sit around the table with family and friends, we take that time to be conscious of everything we have to be grateful for. One of my favorite rituals, before dinner is served, is to take turns sharing what mattered most to each […]
Your Ageless Quest
Stop talking about my age! Your age always has to be mentioned and men don’t really get that for some reason. It’s not like you see Joe Schmo, 37. ~ Jennifer Aniston Wherever I show up, especially as a speaker, I’m asked the same questions that catapulted me on my own Ageless Quest in […]
The Greatness Challenge: Excerpt
In this manifesto, I beseech you to belly up to the realization that we can no longer afford to rest on our laurels. The world is shifting to a different playing field, one New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman says is “flattened by instant connectivity.” If we don’t wake up in time to retool for […]
Yesterday’s Winds Still Blowing Me Away
Generosity, Gratefulness and Grace. Sound like you? If so, you’re a lot like my clients. One woman client, Ms.Clio, recently did something extraordinary. I know you’ll enjoy reading about what she did to take my breath away. It’s mid-afternoon on the day of the once in a lifetime (every 99yrs) seen Solar Eclipse over a […]
