I retired right before COVID-19 and have gone through much more of my savings than I could have accounted for. I’m beginning to think I may need to come out of retirement. My hope is to find a remote working position, but I am concerned I won’t be seen as a viable candidate due to my retired status. Is there anything I can do to address this?

People 50+ who are out of the workforce are in a great position right now. Either in entrepreneurial positions, or if they choose, to go back into the workforce. It’s time to retire retirement. Take on project work; become an independent consultant where you manage your projects. All of it is remote now, so you can create whatever environment you want. Look around––you are of so much value! What were you doing before? How does it relate to what you’re doing now? You’ve hardly been “retired” for long. That’s not a retirement at all, it’s a sabbatical.
All the stats are showing us that in the midst of the Great Resignation there is more pressure to bring in experienced professionals and workers. With more demand, there is often higher pay and benefits. Your years of experience will really pay off. The first thing is, you could work with a Master Coach; because you’re coming back into the workforce, but not necessarily the same field. The other thing is to go online, see what’s happening in the field you left, where the demands are, see if there are any other fields you have wanted to check out, and if your skills/skillset aligns. You can even team up with someone else going through the same kind of search. You’ve got this!
