I do plenty of things I enjoy. I spend time with loved ones, I get out in nature, I take time for self-care, and yet I still feel like something’s missing. It’s almost a sense that I need to be doing more and making a difference. Do I need to have a sense of purpose to have a happy and fulfilling life?

Before you find any sense of purpose or a more meaningful life you must focus on yourself. You need to discover your passions and your values and the things in life that are your absolute must-haves. You need to experience life. And that’s exactly what you’re doing now.
Once you’ve focused on the being, then you can move onto the doing. You’ve moved into a place of being receptive to the messages in your life that will steer you towards your purpose.
Imagine you’re molding yourself and your life as clay. It’s a creative process; you have to play with it. And if you don’t work at it, you won’t have anything to show. Let it be an organic living process that keeps unfolding. The being in life and the molding process are essential because you can’t make meaning out of just doing things. Meaning and purpose don’t just happen. And you can’t do it solely from your head.
You’re on the right path. You need to trust in yourself and be receptive to the signs and messages that will guide you toward more meaning and purpose.
For now, just focus on the being. The doing will come.
